The Tattooed woman

"For the first time, Mrs Pwethang has tried a lipstick given by a visitor, and the pink lipstick has brighten up her face. Mrs Pwethang, 72-year-old, lives in Kanpalat, belong to Daiai tribe, one of the eight tattoos tribes in Chin state (Myanmar). She has started having her face tattooed since she was 15 years old. The tattooed Chin women who lives in the villages in the remote hills of the Chin State are far more than 70 years old. Some people say the tattoos tradition is the way to made the women faces become ""ugly"" to avoid being abducted by the Burmese kings; others say the different tattoos were used to identify their tribes in case they were kidnapped by rivals. The tattoos on their faces are gradually disappearing along with tattooing tradition which was abandoned by the Myanmar government since 1960."
