Spectre

Lava from fissure 16 during the historic and unprecedented 2018 Kilauea eruption in Hawaii flowing out of the ground like tentacles eventually contributing significantly to the approximately 9000 acres of land covered in lava and 800 acres of new coastline created. Over 700 homes were destroyed and many animals perished in the disaster although no people lost their lives. The 2018 Kilauea eruption was the biggest in over 200 years and I documented it for 3 months covering lava, human and animal stories. Estimates of flow rates of lava from fissure 8 alone were up to 150 cubic metres per second filling an Olympic swimming pool every 25 seconds. It created a 9 mile long channelised river to the ocean and lava deposited was in places up to 30 metres thick.
