Dust Storm on Feed Lot Road

On my way to photograph dried-up salt lakes further south, a dust storm was blowing our way. Feed Lot Road offered a straight path into the storm. Feed Lot Road lies in the Galisteo Basin, a vast flat plain grazed to dust by cattle and subject to high winds, sand storms, and drought. The open landscape with its fringe of mountains is cowboy-movie fodder, and the wind-driven sand that day was shifting the light toward warmth. Photographically the place proved irresistible, that day and several others. This diptych illustrates the curtain created by the dust on Feed Lot Road.
