Forgotten Afro/Indian Tribe (Siddi's)

The Siddi also known Habshi, they are an ethnic group inhabiting India and Pakistan.. The structures of the caste system the Siddi are considered very lowly, below the Dalits and other Tribal groups in India since they were migrants from southeast Africa.. The population suffered extreme poverty and were very isolated from mainstream Indian society. The Siddi population is currently estimated at around 850,000 individuals, with Karnataka, Gujarat and Hyderabad in India and Makran and Karachi in Pakistan. Siddis are primarily Muslims, although some are Hindus and others belong to the Catholic Church. I decided to visit their one of the tribe in India , Gujarat and found these extremely warm welcoming poverty stricken people. The government neglects their responsibilities towards them and their kids who dream and aspire to be tomorrow's something. But due to their black skin color they face a lot of racism and are treated like a second grade citizen of India even though they are born here, Their grandparents were born here..still they struggle to be treated like they are among one of us. They are made to feel insecure and inferior just because they are Black. India being one of the most racist countries in the world. My motto was to bring these kid's in limelight and make others aware that they exist too and as any other Indian they also have equal rights and deserve to be treated equally and get equal right to education and work. To my surprise hardly other Indians knew that siddis also exist in India who have African ethnicity but now are completely Indian by Heart and soul. Portraiture Social documentary Photojournalism
