The star keeper

A few days before taking this photograph, there was the phenomenon of the return from the east in the Queyras. This deposited 65cm of snow at Refuge Agnel on April 1, 2022. The return from the east is a meteorological phenomenon bringing significant accumulations of snow. Moreover, it is with this phenomenon that Queyras is the only place in Europe that can receive large amounts of snow in record time! The very dry air of the Queyras makes it possible to obtain dry, not very dense snow. This snow is a delight for winter mountain enthusiasts! No less than 7km of ski touring with almost 600m of elevation gain are necessary to reach this refuge. The date of completion was carefully chosen. Indeed, I wanted to have the arch of the Milky Way above this refuge, with a setting of the Moon just above the latter. The Moon not being in the same position from day to day and not setting in the same places either, there was no question of missing the perfect moment. We had to wait for the right moment (with -12°C) to get the most glitter on the snow. Sequins giving the impression of having thousands of stars at our feet.
