Rest and Recovery - Nic

After a night long deployment trying to hold a wildfire from burning across the mountainside outside of the town of Franschhoek in the Western Cape, South Africa, we watched as the fire spotted across the river and raced away upslope carrying the fire off into the mountains. We were devastated that we couldn't contain the fire, and the hike back down the ash covered mountainside in the cold dawn light was done in silence as we mused on personal thoughts. Once back at our base, I took out my camera and captured the feelings that we all shared.
