Great Horned Owl sitting on her nest

by jamie johnston

A friend gave me a hint where I might find a great horned owl. He even drew me a map. Stomped all around there yesterday, with no luck. Took a few photos of openings in the cottonwood trees, that might be good locations for a nest, but went home feeling rather discouraged. Until I opened the photos. Sure enough, one of the "openings" had an owl perched inside, with one yellow eye peering out at me. Went back again this morning and took this photo.
