Hold Onto Now

I photographed Deonté and Anese in early 2025, at a time when the world was feeling particularly turbulent. When I'm creating portraits, conversations with my subjects become an integral way for me to reach beyond the surface: what fuels them, what brings them joy, what pain or fears are they carrying quietly. On this day, our dialogue kept returning to the importance of presence, and to the often challenging act of staying grounded while the world changes. We spoke of hope as resistance, of tenderness as survival and of the importance of holding onto truth as we witness small fragments of humanity slowly being pulled away into the darkness. This image is a representation of that conversation. Of finding what is real and tangible as the world shifts around us. It is a visual reminder that now is all we ever really have and that sometimes, simply holding onto this fleeting moment is the most courageous thing we can do.
