Self-Portrait – Bodies Under Constraint. This self-portrait addresses the multiple injunctions imposed on feminine bodies: weight, body hair, food, and more broadly the constant control of appearance. The body becomes a site of tension, shaped by social norms that are often contradictory and violent. The saturated colors run through the image like a visual outcry, intensifying the pressure placed on the body and highlighting the symbolic brutality of these normative expectations. Nothing is softened: the frontal composition, strong contrasts, and the materiality of color make visible what is usually internalized or left unspoken. Through this self-portrait, the artist reclaims their image, makes these constraints visible, and questions the standards that shape, judge, and discipline feminine bodies.
