Autumn Blue Heron

I came upon this magnificent Blue Heron during an Autumn sunrise walk around a local lake. He was startled initially, but settled down as I got my gear situated. I hadn't been expecting to shoot wildlife this morning, but I had the long lens with me, just in case. The warm reflection of the Fall foliage in the misty water behind this creature was a welcome backdrop; I wish I could say that I had planned it.
