You Caught Me Smilin'
Photographed by Chaz Niell
The photograph catches a moment of early spring in Soho, New York. A young skateboarder stands shirtless in the city’s intersection as a backdrop, his skin glowing in the overcast afternoon. His afro blooms outward like a halo—full, effortless, alive—framing a face split by a wide, proud smile. When he grins, his gold teeth flash, bright and unapologetic. There’s a feeling of motion even in stillness: confidence, joy, and the restless energy of a season just beginning, all wrapped into one luminous, street-level moment.
