Confrontation
A sow brown bear was fishing on the Douglas River for silver salmon (coho), and was often successful. She was fishing for three as she had two cubs. The much larger bear, a male or boar, had stolen a fish from her 20 minutes earlier. When he approached a second time, she charged him and roared. He roared back, as seen in this photo. She leaned forward and he backs away in a subsequent photo. This was surprising as he looks twice her size and is contrary to what you would typically expect. She obviously knew this bear.
