Cooper's Hawk

This hawk had carried off a pigeon and landed on a snowy freeway embankment on Christmas Eve. To approach it I crawled slowly through the snow, pausing a few times to make photos until he filled the viewfinder. As he ate he rarely stopped snapping his head around, looking in all directions. Under heavy overcast the light was weak but otherwise excellent for this photograph.
