Sunset Standoff

This is wild mustang stallion Shock Top, who had a small band of mares in the Sand Wash Basin Herd Management Area in northwestern Colorado. Shock Top has an interesting story, as his mother, Demi, was a domestic horse that was presumed to be let loose in the basin. Shock Top was born wild, and demonstrates all the toughness of the American Mustang. This shot was taken in the last light of sunset last fall, and I love that soft hazy bit of light around this flashy pinto stallion.
