Le Morne

I visited Mauritius with my partner this past Fall and when researching this tiny island I kept seeing the same place over and over in images, Le Morne. It showed what looked like an underwater waterfall, but I thought, surely that wasn't real or I must have misunderstood what I was seeing. The more I researched, the more I realized that's exactly what I was looking at and I wondered how the images were made. Did the photographer use a drone? Were they in a helicopter? I wasn't sure, but I was fairly certain, I could get something similar. My partner and I planned four days down on the South of the island to explore some national park sites and Le Morne. I researched places to stay that were near this site so that we could shoot at sunrise every morning. This image was taken during sunrise, just as the sun cleared the mountains on the right side of the frame. It took me four sunrises and four sunsets to get both light and composition to highlight the right part of the water. Even then, I swore I missed the shot, but I was out of time and out of chances. When I got back home and looked at the edit, there it was, the underwater waterfall.
